| Tony's Not In Over His Head With Jessica
Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo were back to the warm weather and beach wear this weekend, though the trip to Hawaii wasn't just vacation good times for the happy couple. Tony was in town to play in the Pro Bowl yesterday afternoon — rough life, right? It looks like Jess was happy to accompany her man on the "business trip." I gotta say that these two are totally growing on me. While in town for the game, Tony and his teammate Terrell Owens sat down to chat with a FOX sportswriter. Of course, Miss Simpson came up. Here's what the boys had to say: Marvez: Tony, how do you have to change your life now because of all the attention your relationship with Jessica is getting? Owens: "I think he's in way over his head." Romo: "(Smiling) Definitely not. I don't read the stuff like everyone else does, so it doesn't affect me.
Anchors Away With RFID Smartbuoys
A new electronic mooring system billed as a boon for pampered boaters is also good for the environment since it eliminates the need for dropping a coral-killing anchor. The Italian-engineered MarPark system, launched on an experimental basis last summer in a few protected areas in Liguria and Sardinia, lets boaters cruise into idyllic bays and hook a rope with a rubber ring to a smartbuoy. Simple as that, they're safely harbored, no anchor necessary. And that's just the start. If they've reserved a water taxi or need supplies or services, a microchip in their SeaPass ring relays that info to an onshore service center. A text message reassures the skipper via mobile phone that all systems are go. Like many inventions, MarPark (mare means sea in Italian) was born out of frustration.
On Native Ground
The Administration's reaction to this assessment was to downplay the report and try to come up with alternative ways of measuring progress. Congress will be told that violence is down in Iraq, even though the first six months of 2007 have been the deadliest for U.S. troops and the civil unrest that plagues most of Iraq has not abated. Congress will be told that it really isn't that big a deal that the Iraqi parliament can't agree on oil revenue sharing, holding provincial elections or de-Baathification of the government. Congress will be told that the Administration was unable to foresee that the benchmarks set for the Iraqi government would not be met - just like it couldn't foresee jetliners being flown into skyscrapers or that the levees in New Orleans would fail. Besides, those benchmarks were unrealistic, anyway.
