Malibu Fires And Jennifer Aniston’s Arctic Pain

The Bangladesh floods and the Darfur massacres would lead the news converge if only Kerry Katona could be persuaded to dispense own-brand ketchup to the dispossessed and Lenny Henry retrace his roots to the Sudan.

Accordingly, there is leading news from Malibu where fires are occurring.

In “Red Hot Flea hit by blaze", the Sun tells us that Flea, member of the Red hot Chilli Peppers band, has had his home “burnt to a crisp".

“Stars flee Malibu fires," announces the Express. Minnie Driver, Sting, Pierce Brosnan, Britney Spears, Courtney Cox and Bill Murray have abandoned their properties.

Cynics may argue that having a property in Malibu guarantees column inches, it being the resort for fires.

Indeed, if Jennifer Aniston can only be persuaded to buy a holiday home on the edge of the Arctic ice shelf, she will surely become the most–talked about celebrity on the planet…

Home Dept under fire over Sec 506

While the scenario in the colleges for girls in the city is just like any other day at college, the colleges for boys, on the other hand, present a different sight.

At the SGGS College for Women, Sector 26, one has to look for signs of the forthcoming elections. There is no campaigning and there are no final candidates as yet. We have a quiet affair here when it comes to elections. The students have been asked to submit their nominations and we are still waiting, said the Principal, Mrs Harinderjit Kaur.

The SGGS College, Sector 26, is a riot of colours. Buntings, posters, pamphlets, banners, are all there. With party stickers on every shirt sleeve, students seem to have decided whom to vote for. There are two main contending parties here.

The Khalsa College Students Union (KCSU) which is fielding Harjit Singh Baidwan, alias Bholu, as its presidential candidate.

Tiny oranges roll in for the season

Sometimes called "Christmas oranges" because they peak in supermarkets between Thanksgiving and early January, these small, slightly flat mandarins generally are sold in 5-pound boxes.

Thin-skinned, easy to peel and (most pleasantly) seedless, intensely sweet clementines stand out as snacking fruit, especially for children.

Americans are expected to eat more than 180,000 tons of clementines this year, according to U.S. government and industry figures, most of them from Spain and California.

Domestic growers have only recently plunged into the more than $69 million industry. Clementines first came to the United States in 1909 from Algeria and were grown sporadically in Florida and California, says Tracy Kahn, curator of the Citrus Variety Collection at the University of California, Riverside.

Family defends Pelzer woman in baby's death

Also on Thursday, authorities ordered Ms. Bowen's other child was taken from her and transferred to the Department of Social Services. Custody was to be given to the father's mother, Martha Wilson. The father is Douglas Wilson, who attended a hearing in Anderson County Family Court earlier in the day.

Another court hearing was set for 4 p.m. Feb. 7 in family court.

In the later hearing, Dwayne Wilson, the uncle of Douglas Wilson, the father of Haley, stood up during the proceedings to ask that no bond be set.

Similarly, Ms. Grice stood and said she didn't think Ms. Bowen intentionally harmed her daughter.

Don McCown, Anderson County's deputy coroner and a certified child fatality investigator, said after Wednesday's press conference that the infant suffered abdominal trauma and was not suffering from shaken baby syndrome.

Compulsion destruction

Most people know bulimia can damage a person's teeth, and that regular binge eating can trigger diabetes. But some might not be aware of the long list of other physical dangers eating disorders can cause. Here are 45 health problems connected to eating disorders compiled by something-fishy.org, a Web site devoted to helping people with anorexia, bulimia and compulsive overeating.

1. Malnutrition: This can be caused by undereating or overeating, and it indicates a deficiency of energy, protein and nutrients such as vitamin A and iron. It can cause respiratory infections, kidney failure, blindness, heart attack and death.

2. Dehydration: Starvation, vomiting and laxative abuse are primary causes of depletion of fluids. Symptoms include dizziness, weakness or darkening of urine.
